Today we’re returning to Foggy Point, Washington, for this week’s Fiber Arts Fiction Friday post. Quilt By Association is the fourth book in Arlene Sachitano’s Harriet Truman/Loose Threads mystery series.
Synopsis (Story Details Below, But No Major Spoilers)
Mystery and intrigue seem to follow Harriet Truman everywhere now that she’s returned to Foggy Point! A young African woman has just arrived in town with a baby, claiming that the child belongs to one of Harriet’s beau’s, Aiden Jalbert. She has a compelling story about Aiden’s time as a veterinarian in Africa, but unfortunately Aiden is out of town helping on an animal abuse case so he can’t immediately refute her claims. Instead of asking Aiden about it directly, Harriet decides to investigate on her own.
Harriet is making slow progress in solving the mystery when the young woman and the man she claimed to be her husband have both turned up dead, leaving the young baby behind. At the same time, DeAnn, one of the other members of the Loose Threads quilting circle, has just adopted a young baby who was supposedly from Africa as well. However, something doesn’t seem quite right with the child’s story from the adoption agency. Are these two babies connected to each other?
Aiden returns to Foggy Point and adamantly denies that he is the father of the child, and is even madder still that Harriet kept this information to herself and didn’t tell him during their frequent phone calls. As Aiden, Harriet, and the other members of the Loose Threads continue to investigate the circumstances of the two babies, they once again find themselves facing danger when the full nature of the crimes are finally revealed.
My Review
I’m really enjoying the Harriet Truman/Loose Threads mystery series, and Quilt By Association was no exception. Harriet can’t seem to escape trouble, but she can always count on the support of the Loose Threads. Each book contains enough quilting and sewing to keep it firmly on my list of quilting fiction, and enough murder to make it a wonderful mystery series.
I remain impressed at the way Harriet is rebuilding her life in Foggy Point after becoming a young widow while living in Oakland, California. She always perseveres regardless of what challenges come her way and never fails to be a good friend to others.
Final Thoughts
This was another great read in this quilting mystery series from Arlene Sachitano. I love the community of Foggy Point, and the camaraderie of the Loose Threads. These women may be “just” quilters, but they never fail to face problems head on and to protect each other, even when it puts them in danger.
